We were looking for somewhere we could visit for just one day from Hanoi, and this place fit the bill really well.
Duong Lam village in Son Tay Town is the first ancient village recognised as a national relic in Vietnam. From what we learnt, two of Vietnam’s kings were born in Duong Lam, giving the village its prestige. The ancient village has a history of about 1,200 years with many houses dating back up to 400 years.
Upon arriving we received the warmest welcome from a local family who live in an ancient house there, they offered us tea and we sat with them for around half an hour. We spent a couple of hours looking around and enjoying the pagodas.
There’s not a great deal to see, as it is a small village, but there are a few other attractions around to make it more of a day out.
